Time constraints

The last few weeks have been great, although I still have this nagging feeling in the back of my head that I'm wasting time. This constant feeling that I'm fighting upstream is near driving me to insanity. I'm a very hopeful and determined person but I can't even shake this feeling.

I suppose I just need to try not to think about it. Gawd, I'm going crazy +_+

Disfigured humans and flaming ants

Kung Fu Hustle

Awesome. That's the only way I can describe it, I like it just as well as the Director's, Steven Chow, hilarious Shaolin Soccer. Chow's use of the human body is so impossible and over exaggerated it's impossible not to laugh and be horrified at the torture he submits his characters too. I won't spoil anything, as there is a plot, but I really enjoyed the film.
"What the hell are you doing?!!"

That was my reaction when I went into the kitchen yesterday to find Jester BURNING ANTS WITH A LIGHTER. Her reaction? "Look, they jump when you put that flame next to them!" I was mordified... She showed me her graveyard of the little rascals. She had a camping lighter and was burning them as they crawled across the kitchen counter. I don't like ants either but I don't hate them that much that's just so... cruel.

Then she burned one but it didn't die, it was squirming around on it's one working leg and jester was like "Ooo, look at him struggle." I killed the thing out of mercy.

I think Jester has cabin fever... *prays she gets a job soon* XD

Wasting away, one sim at a time

Yeah, I'm also addicted to The Sims 2. God, I really need fresh air XD. It's really fun though. Jester also has a sim and her sister is made in the game also, it's really interesting how they react around each other.

Books

Currently I'm reading a book entitled "History of the filipino people" by Teodoro Agocillio. Strangely... I'm enthralled by it. I suppose it's just the fascination of a new culture and history I need to adapt too. I just finished José Rizal. I look forward to it's conclusion.

Cinema

What the hell? Why does it take two months for the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" movie to come out here? It was released worldwide, supposedly, yesterday. June 22?!?!?! Wahh... That's so cruel, the bane of living in a country like this I suppose XD. No biggie, now I'll just buy the anthology(books here are cheap), the bane(not) of living in this country XD, and read it with Jester.

Else

Not much else to talk about, life is crawling along at a blinding pace. I can feel time passing slowly but when I actually stop to take a look around, I've missed a lot of time... Oh well

Travesty

American idol
Blah, Constatine is gone. How can this happen? Americans are stupid, that's how. I partially blame Simon for this though. This has happened in the past, when Simon ripped a contestant sometimes he comes out on top because the audience feels sorry for him. That's what happened here I feel. People didn't bother to vote for Connie because most of them figured he would be safe so they prefered to vote for Scott out of sympathy.

How upsetting and fickle the american population can be. Oh well...

CSI

New York is getting promising, although the toe sucking lady gave me the creeps. The show is progressing nicely.

Las Vegas, great episode. I'm looking forward to season finale, I admire how, while not completely true, you can watch almost every episode independantly and not miss much of the main storyline.(since the main storyline is kind of a recent development)

Queer Eye

Made over a gay guy, kind of weird. I never thought a gay guy could be that messy.

-----------------------------

For anyone wondering where I got the title for my last entry, it was from this speech by Newton Minnow, then FCC chairman, to the National Broadcaster's Association. He was speaking on Television:

I have confidence in your health. But not in your product. I am here to uphold and protect the public interest. What do we mean by "the public interest?" Some say the public interest is merely what interests the public. I disagree.

When television is good, nothing--not the theater, not the magazines or newspapers--nothing is better.

But when television is bad, nothing is worse. I invite you to sit down in front of your television set when your station goes on the air and stay there without a book, magazine, newspaper, profit and-loss sheet or rating book to distract you--and keep your eyes glued to that set until the station signs off. I can assure you that you will observe a vast wasteland.

You will see a procession of game shows, violence, audience-participation shows, formula comedies about totally unbelievable families, blood and thunder, mayhem, violence, sadism, murder, western badmen, western good men, private eyes, gangsters, more violence and cartoons. And, endlessly, commercials--many screaming, cajoling and offending. And most of all, boredom. True, you will see a few things you will enjoy. But they will be very, very few. And if you think I exaggerate, try it.

(Speech text)

It's an interesting speech and I believe most of it. Television is a powerful learning tool but it can be abused. XD Although I disagree with him that TV can ever be better than a good book.

A slave to the vast wasteland

Phew... first post since I've arrived here, but getting settled in wasn't as easy as it sounded.

Jester's at work most of the day now so I usually just stay home and try to fix her computers, one of which is really a piece of crap, and watch movies. Most of the time I'm bored out of my mind, because there aren't very many good movies on tv. I've seen several interesting ones lately...

Feature Films

Mystic River

I didn't plan on watching this one but I saw it was on and decided to watch it and guess what? I LOVED IT. I was skeptical mainly because it was directed by Clint Eastwood, who I never cared for as an actor especially, and starred Tim Robbins, Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon. It was a very good tale with richly detailed characters(primarly focusing on the there aforementioned characters). I don't want to spoil anything of the story but it's a murder/mystery with a twist. It's really good, I'll definately own it if I ever get some extra cash.

The tuxedo

Jackie Chan, enough said. However this is one of my least favorite films of his recent films mainly because most of the action sequences were CGI rather than Jackie Chan himself(who is notorious for doing his own stunts, but when the action is CGI it's ehhh... less appealing). As for the story, well, who watches Jackie Chan movies for the story? Anyway, a big water(bottled) company designs a virus that will make people thirsty so they can increase their profits. Lame, I know but still enjoyable.

Bugs

A very lame, very cheap sci-fi movie. Basically a evil corporation (running theme eh?) gets a government contract to build a tower connecting two cities. They break into a fossilized cavern and try to cover it up. They inadvertantly release upon the earth these creatures that resemble giant locusts, and they start to plague the tunnel and it's up to the lowly CDC(Center for Disease Control) agent and her FBI (duh) counterpart to stop the bugs before they reach the surface. Of course you need marines, can't have a cheesy sci-fi movie without people dying and you can't kill off your main characters(right?), so they die off by the end of the movie. It's okay though because the writers didn't spend more than 30 seconds on each of the individual marines so you don't feel much while they're picked off by the over-grown insects.

I have a confession to make however, I love movies that are defined as "B". There's something morbidly facinating about a movie that by all definitions stink, but the director really tried to make it a good film. I don't care for spoofs as much unless they're really well done (weird, I know). This is probably why I love "Ed Wood" so much, it's a film directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp about the movie director Ed Wood. Did I mention he's internationally known as the worst director in history? Oh and, he was a cross dresser... ... ... ... ... enough on that...

Series

Yes, the three series that I find myself waiting to watch are:

Queer eye for the straight guy

No need to explain this series, I simply love it.

CSI (all three)

Love Las Vegas and Miami, New York is too new to tell... although I have a certain affinity for Gary Sinise so it's looking good (he is exceptional in Steven King's The Stand).

American Idol

Once again, self-explanitory. However, I must say "No! Why Anwar!" I can't wait until Scott gets knocked out. That will be great.

----

Phew... luckily for my brain I will not have too much extra time to watch TV over the next few days. I'm going to Tagaytay over the weekend and going to a library tomorrow, so I'll see how that turns out...

In other news, I finally got a cellphone. That's a big thing for american but seems to be as much as a staple as rice for filipinos. So I guess this is what they call the white man's burden... j/k, anyway this is going to be a great experience...

+_+ The closer it gets to leave the more stressing it gets....

I really have a hard time believing that I'm actually leaving for such a long time, possibly for good. God, I'm going crazy... the time is dragging on so slowly...

Almost there...

Wah, it's so stressful making sure everything is packed and ready to go. This time tomorrow I'll be on my flight, god, I need to stop thinking about it... stress stress stress! +_+

Ahh... this helps XD

_______________

Finished packing... sort of...

Well,

I have a problem. I have too many clothes, gah... But somehow I managed to put my whole life into a 2 1/2 ft by 1 1/2 ft by 1 ft suitcase. Well, almost all of it. Luckily I remembered that I needed a set of clothes to wear when I arrive(that would've been quite a slip XD) before I secured the case.

Ah well, I still have my carry on which will probably consist of my books, documents and radio. Although I'm thinking I should've put more books in the case and some clothes on the carry-on(since books are far heavier than clothes XD).
